Welcome
to 413!
Troop mythology tells us that the Horned Moon is an ancient Indian
symbol. Other tales describe it as artwork from a local surfer. It
has been a part of our heritage for so long that no one currently
involved with the troop can clearly explain its origin. However, the
distinctive design and colors are a vibrant part of our history and
we wear our emblem proudly. No matter where we go, our troop stands
out as
"The Horned Moon Troop".
Troop
413 can be found in Arroyo Grande, California. We are a small town
in San Luis Obispo County, which is located about 150 miles north
of Los Angeles on the Central Coast. Part of the Los Padres Council,
our troop was established in 1946 as Troop 13. In the mid 1970's,
the number 4 was added as prefix to all of the troops in the area,
and that is the number we hold to this day. Troop 413 is proud of
the distinction of being the oldest Boy Scout Troop in the county.
413
has the privilege of having its own Scout Hall. Formerly a one room
schoolhouse, this venerable old building is provided for us by Japanese
Cultural Society of the Five Cities, and we truly appreciate their
support. The hall has been called home by decades of Boy Scouts. The
inside walls are covered with decades of Scouting memorabilia. Complete
with our own giant flagpole and rustic fire pit, the property gives
us the perfect home for a Scout troop to practice our trade. Come
check us out!.
